Suicide Prevention Trainings
Some trainings are offered locally, most are free. Please contact us if you’re interested in receiving more information on any of these trainings

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) (1-2 hours)

QPR is a 1-2 hour training that teaches the participant how to ask if someone is feeling suicidal, to persuade them to seek help, and to refer them to a resource.

Offered through The Piñon Project Family Resource Center, the Montezuma County Public Health Department, and Celebrating Healthy Communities. Contact us to see when the next training is.

Changing Our Mental and Emotional Trajectory (COMET) (1.5 hours)

COMET consists of seven simple guiding questions and guidelines for any community member to use to start those conversations when concerned about another’s emotional and mental well-being. It gives us permission to ask some harder questions and lowers the fears of asking these questions. Contact us if you are interested in this training.

Virtual Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) (1.5-2)

This free online course focuses on how to reduce access to the methods people use to kill themselves. It covers how to: (1) identify people who could benefit from lethal means counseling, (2) ask about their access to lethal methods, and (3) work with them—and their families—to reduce access. ***Please note that this is a training from the provider perspective but the methods can be utilized by anyone.***
